Abode - Fay Ranch Road

In the mountains in Weldon, California is a small community - very similar to Whitewater Creek.

This field was covered with little purple flowers - beautiful!!!

The view from the living room.

Screened porch off the bedroom.

Such a pretty area, so much to explore, wish we had more time.

We went for a walk in the mountains - the surrounding land is part of a nature preserve.

The Homestead Act of 1862 stated that any current or future citizen, with a mere ten dollars, could claim a homestead of up to 160 acres of government land, and “improve” the land by putting it to use as a family plot. This meant erecting a dwelling and farming the soil for a period of five years. If the claimant did so for the allotted period, they could then gain ownership of their land free of charge.

This property was originally homesteaded - the current owner is the fourth.

Our Abode

The wildflowers this Spring are beautiful!

California Poppies

Beautiful how they grow in the fields and hills.

Horses and cattle need lots of acreage to feed - fences and gates give them lots of area to roam and cattle guards are common - you gotta share the road.

When we came down the road, these guys were standing right up against the cattle guard - kinda like "the grass is greener on the other side"

They were very friendly!
