Spent the day in Hot Springs, exploring the park. The naturally thermal spring water comes out of the ground at 140 degrees - its so hot you can't keep anything in for very long. One side of the main street is lined with Bath Houses. Back in the day they were popular for their healing properties. The bathhouses piped the hot spring waters into their tubs and made it a resort/healing destination. A couple of the bath houses still are open to the public and offer spa treatments. The Fordyce Bathhouse is the National Park Visitor Center and museum. The rooms are furnished as they appeared during the heyday of the spa.
In the afternoon we went to Ron Coleman Crystal Mines to dig for quartz crystals. We found some pretty ones ... not as many as some of the other people there. Now we have to clean them up and see how pretty they are. They said to soak them in coke .... makes you wonder what coke does to your stomach????
Ah ... but there's nothing like a fountain coke with lots of ice ... moderation ...
Sonic for Supper - burger was good but the orange creamsicle smoothie was the best!
