Las Vegas

On the way from Bryce to Las Vegas, we crossed some mountains.  We thought we had seen the last of the snow in Bryce... shortly we were in a winter AGAIN!  We should have known when the first sign on the highway said "Road may be closed, chains may be required before March 31"

It was a windy climbing road that started out with some beautiful houses overlooking a lovely pond ... and slowly it changed to snowbanks and a winter outdoorsmans paradise.

Navajo Lake in Duck Creek Village, Utah

I don't know if this is winter snow that hadn't melted yet ... or new snow ... like Bryce got a couple of weeks ago.  However, the lake is definitely still frozen.  We even saw snowmobiles and an avalanche sign.  It was nice to come down the other side and feel warmer weather.

By the time we got to Vegas (only about 4 hours) it was in the 90's - CRAZY

We checked in and then headed over to the pool to check it out ... and what do you know ... $5 Margaritas for the month for Cinco De Mayo ... the Mango is very tasty.

Papa Bruce and Bro arrived and we got a colossal pizza on the way to visit Joe's grandparents.

It was delicious.  They brush the crust with garlic butter just before serving it!

Joe's grandparents (Joe and Gloria) are very nice.  They remind me a lot of my Aunt Pat and Uncle Bob in Florida.  They even have their apartment decorated in the same oriental fashion.

They live in an adult community that is beautiful.  The section they live in is for independent living - they have their own three bedroom two bath apartment (cleaning included).  There is also a section for assisted living and then skilled nursing.

The decor is tasteful and clean and up-to-date.  Lots of comfortable areas for hanging out.  A really nice pool table room.  (I would be afraid to play for fear I would ruin the table)  It almost made you want to be old enough to move in ... maybe there isn't an age requirement.

You know how when you walk into a "nursing home" or hospital, it has that "institutional" smell.  Like food and other nasty stuff that has been ground into the carpet.  Sometimes even hotels or restaurants get that smell ...  this place didn't have it.  It was weird because there were walkers and motorized wheelchairs ... but no smell!

Gloria and Joe reserved a private dining room for the Mothers Day Buffet.  You were greeted with a plastic glass of champagne with a strawberry floating in it.  Now this is retirement living!

The private dining room was really nice - nice like a fancy restaurant.  And the food - I think it might even be better than Mallozzi's.  All sorts of breakfast foods and then carving and pasta stations ... and then desert!  We were stuffed and did not eat again for the rest of the day.
